Adding ARMax to FFX ISO, can it be done? (for cheats on game on HDD)
« on: January 03, 2006, 05:04:01 am »

OK, here's my problem:  Final Fantasy X's disc uses some weird sort of copy protection, as far as I've been able to research it's an illegal TOC, like this:

1. Data
2. Lead-in/Lead-out
3. TOC

--at least that's the info I got from some forum I've since lost, after literally hours of searching.....

At any rate, the effect of this is that whether I put the actual DVD in my PC, or whether I read from an ISO of the disc (both of which work to play the game on the PS2; the ISO transfers with WinHIIP and plays from HDLoader 0.7c, and the disc boots after swap/slide card), the effect is that Windows Explorer shows just a very few files on the disk totalling about 5.2Megabytes in size -- obviously not correct, when there's over 4GB of data on the DVD.

In order to add ARMax to the ISO, as I understand it, I need to extract the files from the ISO, rename the FFX system.cnf so that ARMax will load it after telling it to start the game, add the ARMax files, and rebuild the ISO.  That presents a problem when I am unable to extract the data from the ISO...

I don't have an original copy of AR Max, or any other cheat disc -- I'm using the versions from CryptBreaker, as recommended elsewhere in these forums, and going out to buy a cheat disc for one game seems a bit extreme, especially when I'm strapped for cash anyway (no, not asking you to pity me, just stating the way things are...  cheesy )

If anybody has a viable solution, I'm all ears, and open to trying things.  Even if it ends up being a "swap 4 times, eject, replace the disc, reset, click your heels 3 times and make a wish" kind of solution, as long as it works!  grin
